A proposal that the World Zionist Organization be reconstituted so as to be representative of the Zionist movement outside Israel alone, was contained in a resolution adopted here last night at the annual conference of the Mizrachi Organization of Britain.
The Orthodox Zionists also suggested that the World Zionist Executive, an elected body, coopt local Jewish leaders who are not Zionists but who have proved themselves staunch friends of Israel, and that the Executive plus these non-Zionist leaders together from the Jewish Agency.
The parley further recommended that the Zionist Actions Committee, policy-making body between World Zionist Congresses, be enlarged with representation being assigned on a territorial basis to Zionist movements in every country. This enlarged body would meet only once annually, in Jerusalem. The members of the Actions Committee in each country would be constituted as a permanent local group with full authority to represent that community’s Zionist movement.
In a spate of 32 resolutions, the Mizrachi also called on the great powers to exert their influence to press for direct Israel-Arab peace talks; criticized the United Nations’ handling of the Arab refugee problem; warned that failure to resettle the Arab refugees would lead to further unrest along Israel’s borders; and demanded that the UN implement the armistice agreement provision giving Jews access to the Wailing Wall, now in the Jordan-held Old City of Jerusalem. Dr. Israel Brodie, British Chief Rabbi, was re-elected president of the organization.
