The drive in the Italian press to embrace Palestine in the group of Italy’s “natural aspirations” is steadily increasing.

Il Piccolo declares in an article: “The rebirth of Rome in the Mediterranean is guaranteed by the victorious war for independence we are fighting against the foreigners encamped on our sea. We will resurrect the Kingdom of Cyprus and Jerusalem under the scepter of the King to signify the uninterrupted continuity of Rome and the glorious crusades for a renewed empire under Fascist Italy.”

Asserting that only the House of Savoia has a right to the Holy Land, the paper states:

“Twenty years of British administration in Palestine have revealed an agnostic character and repression of the cultural and religious emotion of the country… Jerusalem, returned to Europe after seven centuries, signified nothing to humanity, but for Palestine it meant Jewish invasion, repression of the nationalist Arabs and abandonment of the Holy Sepulehre.”
