Congresswoman Bella Abzug (D.N.Y.) introduced a resolution today to the House calling upon President Nixon to express the strong disapproval of the United States to the Lebanese and other governments harboring, aiding or encouraging Arab-sponsored terrorist groups.

The resolution urged Congress to call on all international airlines to boycott Beirut until such time as the Lebanese government takes “strong effective measures to terminate the existence of this group (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) or any other similar group on its territory.” Mrs. Abzug’s resolution expressed the “horror, shock and dismay” of Congress at the killing and wounding of innocent civilians, many of them religious pilgrims.

The resolution stated that “Although the perpetrators of this outrage were apparently not of Arab nationality, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has claimed responsibility for the incident. It is well known that even though this group and other Arab terrorist groups may not be officially connected with the government of Arab nations, they receive the protection and covert support of these governments in planning and carrying out their activities.”
