Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt has been named the “Woman of the Year” in an award voted today by the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women at the closing session here of its annual meeting.
The announcement, which was made by Mrs. Joseph M, Welt, president of the Council cited Mrs. Roosevelt’s leadership in the U.N. Committee on Human Rights where she ? championed the rights of minorities here and throughout the world. It described ? as “an inspiring example of selfless devotion to the betterment of mankind.” The ?rd will be formally presented at a yet undesignated date.
Former Gov. Herbert H. Lehman will be the featured speaker tomorrow at a ?ial Council broadcast over the network of the National Broadcasting Company at 2.15 p.m. He and other speakers will discuss the question of aid to displaced persons.
