Anxious to reduce the ever-increasing sabotage against the German army in occupied Poland, Nazi authorities there are now placing groups of Jews and Poles on trains carrying troops and war material, in the hope that this will prevent Jewish and Polish guerrillas from blowing up the trains, it was reliably reported here today.
Reports reaching here today from Poland reveal that the Jewish communities there are being ordered by the Nazi administration to provide overcoats, shoes and gloves to the many thousands of Jews who are sent to labor gangs on the Soviet front, to work there preparing defensive positions for the retreating German army.
A report from Cracow stated that the Jewish Community in the Lublin ghetto was ordered to supply within three days 2,000 sets of warm clothing for a Jewish labor gang sent from Lublin to a labor camp in Belzyce, where the German army is building fortifications. A Warsaw report said that the Jewish Community of Warsaw issued an appeal to the Jewish population in the ghetto there to save whatever drugs they have and to send them to the Jewish hospital where there is an acute lack of medicine, cotton and medical instruments as a result of Nazi requisitioning.
