Vandals presumed to be neo-Fascists threw a bomb last night against the parked car of the noted Italian Jewish painter and author. Dr. Carlo Levi, smashing a door and several windows. Dr.Levi commanded a partisan group which fought the Germans and Italian Fascists in the Tuscany area near the end of World War II.
Dr. Levi, who was not in the car at the time, said the action apparently was caused by his act of signing with other Italian intellectuals a manifesto condemning official bans of gatherings by anti-Fascists and police attacks on such gatherings. The manifesto also urged that state authority be used against Fascists rather than to “suppress the rights of citizens.”
