Three members of the neo-Nazi “Peoples Socialist Movement” were arrested in Belgium yesterday, re-enforcing reports by the West German State Television that the group was linked to last Tuesday’s bomb blast outside an Antwerp synagogue. The explosion killed two women instantly and a third victim, a man, died Friday of his wounds.
Meanwhile, intelligence services here have released additional information about the group which the authorities consider one of the most dangerous rightwing organizations in the Federal Republic. Its leader, Friedhelm Busse, 52, was arrested last Wednesday after two of its members were killed in a gun battle with police outside of Munich and three others were captured Tuesday night.
Busse was observed at a meeting with young supporters in a Munich cafe four days earliers. He is reported to have said that as in 1933, the year the Nazis won power in Germany, the time is ripe for a change. “We have the right to re-shape the State … We are building now in Nuremberg the gallows for the democrats who have subjugated Germany to the occupation of the Allied powers. They have only a short time, “he is quoted as saying. Busse assured his supporters that “We are loyal to Hitler’s legacy and our main enemy is, of course, the Jew.”
According to West Germany intelligence, Busse’s gang finances its activities by robbing banks and with support obtained from abroad. It is said to have links in France, Belgium, Britain, Italy, Canada, the U.S., Austria, Switzerland, and Lebanon.
