The freighter Meir Dizengoff sailed for Israel today, inaugurating a new U.S. -Israel transport service, The vessel was loaded with foodstuffs, machinery, trucks and piping, most of which had been parchased in this country with funds provided under the Anerican $100,000,000 loan to the Jewish state.
The vessel Jackster, a Panamanian flag ship, left here yesterday with cargo and passengers for Haifa. This is the vessel’s first trip to an Israel port since July 12, 1948 when her crew unloaded cargo in the port of Tel Aviv while Arab planes were bombing shipping and harbor installations. The crew and vessel were under fire for six days, but wre never hit.
