A new pro-Israel organization, the Labor Friends of Israel, was established tonight at Brighton where the Labor Party is convening for its 56th annual national convention. The chief purpose of the organization is to strengthen the ties of friendship between Britain and Israel.
Invitations to the first meeting of the Friends were issued by Labor MP’s Frank Leswick, Anthony Greenwood and Arthur Bottomley. Some 50 Labor MP’s, including several former Ministers, and Jewish Socialist personalities are among the sponsoring group. Many Labor delegates attended the organizing session.
Meanwhile, conference delegates were surprised at the vote for the new national executive of the party which ousted Sidney Silverman from that body. This leaves only one Jew, Ian Mikardo, on the Labor Party executive.
