All Jewish national organizations, including the left-wing Jewish Democratic Committee, have issued statements urging Jewish residents of Rumania to register in the national census which began today as “Rumanian citizens of Jewish nationality.”
This is the first time in the history of Rumania that citizens will be free to indicate their nationality and mother tongue. The Jewish organizations hope that the census will provide accurate figures on the size of the present-day Jewish community, if the Jews register as they have been asked to.
