The New York Board of Rabbis today unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Rabbi Benjamin Schultz for his recent series of articles in the New York World Telegram in which he charged that certain individuals, organizations and institutions of the Protestant, Jewish and Catholic faiths were Communist or Communist-dominated.
The resolution charged Rabbi Schultz with “using the smear technique of a scandal monger” and of violating the Commandment that “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor.” It called on him to retract his false accusations or face further action by the rabbinical body. Rabbi Schulz, who had been invited to attend the meeting, did not appear.
Earlier this week, the trustees of Congregation Emanu El in Yonkers, of which Rabbi Schultzis spiritual leader, asked for his resignation.
