The fears of Orthodox Jews in Austria that an anti-schechita movement may be initiated in the country were dispelled yesterday by Chancellor Ramek when he received a delegation representing the Jewish orthodox world organization Agudath Israel.
The delegation, which was headed by Dr. Pinchas Kohn, expressed its apprehension that the present steps being taken by the Austrian government to redraft the Code of Law on a basis similar to that of the German and Bavarian code might include the Bavarian schechita prohibition.
The Chancellor assured the delegation that such tendencies are alien to the Catholic majority of Austria and that the enactment of a Schechita prohibition in Austria is unthinkable.
