Some 200 left-wing students and non-students ended their occupation of the Hebrew University’s Senate Hall yesterday afternoon and marched on the Knesset in what was a noisy but non-violent demonstration to protest police action against Black Panthers in Jerusalem Monday night. The protesters gave up their attempts to force the university to issue a formal condemnation of the police action. But they chanted “Police State” as they marched toward the Knesset building. Largo contingents of police and mounted police were on hand with water cannons but did not intervene. The marchers did not disrupt traffic and eventually dispersed peacefully.
