Criticism of the Palestine government for permitting an Arab nationalist demonstration under its own official auspices was voiced by Doar Hayom, Hebrew daily, which quoted excerpts of speeches delivered recently at the unveiling of a memorial to the late King Feisal at Haifa.
Present at the ceremony were Acting High Commissioner James Hatton Hall, Hassan Bey Shukri, Mayor of Haifa, and other government officials.
“The memorial as a whole, with its broken top, is symbolic of the glorious work of King Feisal toward the independence and unification of the Arab countries,” declared Ali Bey Tamimi, head of the Haifa Moslem Association.
Mayor Shukri referred to the “coming expansion of Arab civilization in these countries.”
Acting High Commissioner Hall said he welcomed the fact that “Haifa, which is the link between the East and the West, Arabia and Europe, should erect a lasting memorial to this most illustrious King, Feisal.”
