One of Russia’s two chief rabbis praised Vladimir Putin’s openness after the two met in the Kremlin. After the meeting Thursday, Rabbi Berel Lazar said that he and the Russian president had discussed various issues of concern to Russian Jewry, including Jewish emigration, the return of synagogue buildings to Jewish communities and the relationship between Russian Jews and other Jewish communities throughout the world.
