The convention of the Rabbinical Council of America closed today with the adoption of a resolution condemning the “uncertain policy” of the British Government in Palestine, which was blamed for the troubled situation there. The more than 50 Orthodox delegates drafted a protest to the British Government against limit at on of immigration in Palestine and demanded that the Mandatory Power adhere to its pledges to the Jewish people. The convention also sent a cable to the Evian refugee-aid conference requesting that a special effort be made to open the doors of Palestine and expressing appreciation to the conference for its efforts to aid refugees.
The council approved the five-day week as “an ideal solution to our Sabbath problem,” and called on employers to allow Jewish employes to observe the Sabbath. It urged the New York State Constitutional Convention at Albany to adopt a provision exempting observers of the Saturday Sabbath from observance of Sunday laws and to give public employes the benefit of the five-day week. Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, New York, was re-elected president.
