Philanthropy as a barometer of business conditions is reflected in the number of subscribers to the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities, whose contributions to the current $500,000 maintenance fund campaign of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities exceed the amount they gave to a similar campaign a year ago.
County Judge Algeron I. Nova, chairman of the 1934 drive, announced yesterday that a representative group of thirty-eight subscribers of substantial amounts who contributed $11,525 toward the 1933 campaign have given $32,975 to date toward the 1934 drive, an increase of $21,450.
Judge Nova, in analyzing the improved record of giving, attributed the better returns to two factors. “Recognition of the increased needs, along with a returning confidence associated with improving business conditions, are responsible for the rising standard of giving” said Judge Nova.
