Police precincts throughout the city had special orders today to protect synagogues from defacement after unknown vandals had painted bright orange-colored swastikas on the outer walls of Temple Rodeph Sholom.

Rabbi Louis I. Newman blamed “Nazi representatives” and saw a relationship between the desecration and Secretary of State Hull’s pretest to Germany on the Nazi press barrage. He said the temple had been defaced six times in the last two years.
