Jews will be completely “purged” from Vienna’s economic life within the next few months, it was announced by Herr Rafelsberger, Austrian Commissioner for Economy. One hundred per cent “Aryanization” has already been realized in the field of retail trade, banking, transportation and skilled labor, he said. Only one-third of the wholesale trade and heavy industry have been “Aryanized,” he admitted, but promised that the program would be completed by next July. He estimated that 36,000 of Vienna’s 145,000 business enterprises had been owned by Jews before Austria was taken over by Nazi Germany.
