President and Mrs. Zalman Shazar today received the American film actress Marlene Dietrich, who is currently visiting Israel. Miss Dietrich, who was born in Germany but has been an American citizen for 30 years, later visited the Yad Vashem memorial where she lit a candle in memory of the victims of the Nazi holocaust.
The film star, who visited Israel once before, said today that she returned because of her “strong attraction” for the Jewish people and admiration for Israel. She was warmly received by Israeli audiences during her appearances here and she also gave benefit performances for the Israeli armed forces.
