Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he would not respond to ongoing Palestinian violence by having the army reoccupy lands in the West Bank and Gaza Strip that were handed over to the Palestinian Authority under the Oslo accords. “I think the situation is irreversible” in those areas, Sharon said in a joint interview with The Washington Post and Newsweek.
