Sweden’s Prime Minister Tage Erlander expressed the hope here last night that “the recent liberalization of Israel’s trade policy may result in increased trade between the two countries.” His statement was part of a toast which he exchanged with Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion at a formal state dinner tendered to the Swedish statesman who is here with his wife for a week-long state visit.
Prior to the dinner, Mr. Erlander and Mr. Ben-Gurion held an hour’s conference, and earlier the Swedish leader visited President Izhak Ben-Zvi, relaying personal greetings to Mr. Ben-Zvi from the King of Sweden. The Swedish visitors were also tendered a luncheon by Israel’s Foreign Minister Golda Meir. They laid a wreath on the grave of Dr. Theodor Herzl, and visited the Memorial to the Martyrs of Nazi persecutions at the Yad Vashem.
