Three of the ringleaders in the anti-Jewish outbreak which took place last March in the Posen township of Kruszewicz, Lewicki, Milaka and Krieger, have been sentenced to a year’s hard labour each; four others have been sent to prison for 9 months, 13 for 6 months, 11 for 3 months and 3 for shorter terms, while 11 have been acquitted by the District Court at Bydgoezcz, before which 43 of the participants in the outbreak came up for trial to-day.
The outbreak took place during market day, the mob going about looting the Jewish stalls. The mob took up a very threatening attitude towards the small force of police in the township when it tried to protect the Jews. The police sergeant in charge used his revolver, one of the looters, Kazimierz Pilkarewicz being seriously wounded. The fire brigade was called out, scattering the rioters by turning the hose pipe on them. Under cover of the confusion police reinforcements were brought up, and many of the rioters were arrested and the greater part of the loot was recovered.
