Leading Catholics in Great Britain, with their eyes on the "Protocols" trial in Berne, today demanded that the libel law in England be amended in order to protect the Catholics from defamation.
The demand is voiced in the Tablet, the official organ of the Catholics in England.
"That such an amendment is workable has been proven by Jewish friends who have success-tobo newspaper for printing inflame-toba ntwspaper inflammatory articles against Jews and for reiterating the discredited lie about the so-called Protocols of the Elders of Zion," the paper says.
The paper recalls that after Sir John Simon had successfully sued and mercifully treated a Wesleyan minister named Bond in respect to a libel, Catholic leaders in England once more raised the question of libels against Catholics. "The Manitoba law and the action of our Jewish friend in combatting the discredited lie about the so-called ‘Protocols’ is a practicable model for Catholic reformers in Great Britain to work upon," the paper suggests.
