Arthur Davison Ficke, one of America’s foremost poets, and Miss Gladys Brown, the painter, were married Saturday according to the Jewish law by Rabbi Lewis Browne.
Although both the bride and groom are Christian, they chose a Jewish Minister to perform the ceremony because of what they called an “aesthetic repugnance to Christian clerics and justices of the peace”.
The ceremony was performed in the home of Edna St. Vicent Millay, the well-known poet and painter, and among the guests were Witter Bynner, Eugene Boissevain, and a number of others, prominent in theliterary and art circles of New York.
Rabbi Browne was formerly of Temple Israel, Waterbury, Conn., and is now in New York, connected with the Nation and the Freeman.
