By Airmail — Rabbi Solomon Kats, who as senior rabbi of New Zealand had for the past two years been acting as chaplain for the Jewish Welfare Hoard to American Jewish servicemen in this country, died here today. He was instrumental in securing the entry of hundreds of Jewish refugees into New Zealand.
Horn in Kalerash, Russia, Rabbi Katz was a graduate of Jew’s a College, London and the Jewish Theological Seminary. After living for some years in England, Rabbi Katr served in Auckland New Zealand, and came to the United States in 1920. A member of the Rabbinical Assembly of the U.S., he served congregations in New York, Birmingham, Ale., and New Rochelle, before returning to New Zealand in 1931 to be Senior Rabbi for the Wellington Hebrew Congregation, which he served until his death.
