The Executive Committee of the Rabbinical Assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America has adopted a resolution, the J.T.A. is informed, calling upon the American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress, the B’nai B’rith and other national Jewish bodies to unite for the purpose of planning united action on the question of a Jewish World Congress.
In view of the deplorable conditions which the Jews are facing in many lands, says the resolution, and in view of the fact that the representative Jewish organisations in every land, such as the Board of Deputies in England, the Hilfsverein in Germany, the Alliance Israelite in France, the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Congress in America, are each, in their own way, endeavouring to safeguard Jewish rights, and in view of the further fact that a World Jewish Congress called by one of these groups without the co-operation of the others would be ineffective and ill-advised; the Rabbinical Assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, recognising that a policy of inaction may be fraught with dangerous consequences and that the situation in World Jewry is such that the consideration of the problem is urgent and immediate, urges the American Jewish Committee, the B’nai B’rith and other national Jewish organisations to meet together at the earliest possible date and to discuss the advisability of summoning a world conference of leaders of the various Jewish communities in order that some united programme of action be planned and carried into effect.
It also urges that this conference be empowered, if after due deliberation it so sees fit, to call a World Congress for the purpose of safeguarding Jewish rights in all lands.
