Does Israel’s Ambassador to Washington plan to enter politics? That question was being asked here following the announcement that Ambassador Yitzhak Rabin has formally enrolled as a member of the Labor Party in its Tel Aviv branch, the largest in the country. The announcement said that Rabin’s application was received recently and was immediately accepted. Observers here said it was significant in view of Rabin’s impending return home and his likely appointment to a ministerial post. Rabin was Chief of Staff of Israel’s armed forces during the Six-Day War.
