With official denials of anti-Semitic leaders to hand, the question of whether or not an anti-Semitic campaign is now being prepared in Roumania for the purpose of embarrassing the Maniu government by striking at the Jews, continues to be discussed in the press.

A report current states that Octavian Goga, former Minister of the Interior, concluded a secret pact with Professor Catuneanu with a view to recorganizing the anti-Semitic student movement and to send out agents and agitators in the villages to incite the peasants against the Jews. The “Dreptatea” the government organ, is responsible for this information which was published in comment of the official denials made by the Averescu and Jorga groups. The government organ declared that this secret pact will never be carried into effect as the government is determined to take effective measures to rigorously prevent all possible agitation, even if the plotters would seek refuge in castles and palaces. “They are no statesmen body at a weapon,” states the paper.
