The government of Premier Ion G. Duca, announced today the re-establishment of a special ministry for minorities, which previous governments had abolished.
Professor Ion I. Nistor, the newly-appointed Minister for Minorities, issued a declaration in which he stated that the problem of minorities must be treated as a government problem, above all party strifes. He stated that relations with the minorities will be based on justice and fairness and a striving for amicable relations with all Roumanian citizens.
Anti-Semitic student organizations carried out demonstrations today as a protest against the government’s suppression of the anti-Semitic daily newspaper, Calendrul.
In Czernowitz, students caused a panic in the Jewish district, when they assembled there after their demonstration outside the office of the pro-government paper was broken up by police. They reassembled in the Jewish quarter and began to annoy Jews. Shops were hurriedly closed, while the anti-Semitic students and the police engaged in a battle which lasted for several hours. A few policemen were hurt in the fight, including the major of police, Monti.
