Cable advices from Bucharest to the Roumanian Legation in Washington state that the Government has granted the Jews a subsidy of more than $60,000 for religious work, a report from Washington to the “New York Times” says.
Leon Fischer, Vice President of the United Roumanian Jews of American who is now in Roumania, authorized by cable a statement declaring that the action of the Government is “emphatic evidence that the Liberal Roumanian Government under Bratianu is doing everything possible for the Jewish and other minorities,” the despatch states.
Mr. Fischer states that the Government subsidy is significant to Roumanian Jews less for the amount of money involved than for the priciple behind it.
“I am happy to state that since the pact between the National Liberal Party and the Jews, the relationship between the Government and the Jews has become more and more cordial and has enabled the accomplishment of a series of legislative and administrative measures favoring the Jewish population,” Mr. Fischer declared in his statement.
