A memorandum asking that Roumanian teachers in the public schools be prohibited from compelling Jewish pupils to be present during lessons on Christian religion and payers was submitted to the Roumanian Minister of Education, Angelescu, by Rabbi Zirelson, Chief Rabbi of Besarabia and member of the Roumanian Parliament.
The Minister of Education returned the Rabbi’s memorandum with the following remark: “Returned because of sharp tone.”
