The Rumanian Ministry of Justice has instructed the Rumaian Bar Association to compile lists of all lawyers who have changed their surnames, the newspaper Pester Lloyd reports from Bucharest.
In accordance with these instructions, the Bar Association of Arad has summoned all lawyers known to have changed their names and also those suspected of having done so. According to Pester Lloyd, the association is interpreting the instructions very freely and is even registering the names of lawyers whose family names were changed by their fathers or grandfathers.
The lists to be submitted to the Ministry will contain both the present and original names of the lawyers concerned. It is believed in legal circles that the Ministry’s instructions are connected with preparation of a new law introducing a numerous clausus in the legal profession. The lists would be used in this case to establish the exact racial and religious proportions.
