Viscount Samuel, who was the first British High Commissioner for Palestine, speaking at a meeting celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hebrew University, said that charges that Jewish immigration had forced Arabs out of Palestine were false. He asserted that the Arab population of the country has increased by 400,000 in the past 20 years.
J. B. Priestly, noted author, praised the university as a manifestation of a nationalism which was spiritual and cultural, and said that the Jewish contribution to world civilization would become even more valueble once the Jews are rected in the soil of their homeland.
