A conference of 50 scholars at Brandeis University has agreed to establish a permanent association of university teachers of Judaica. According to Prof. Joseph Blau, of Columbia University, who proposed the resolution, the association would be formed to “promote, maintain, and improve the teaching of Jewish studies in American colleges and universities.”
He said the association would hold national and regional meetings, publish a newsletter, aid the establishment of library sections in Jewish studies and set minimal standards for Jewish studies programs. A steering committee headed by Dr. Leon Jick of Brandeis was assigned to determine the structure of the association and report its findings to a second conference to be held here next year.
