The seamen’s strike approached a new stage today when a minority of the strikers appealed to the Histadrut to form a new main-time union to replace the association which is conducting the present strike.
Although the Histadrut today claimed that the “adventure”–as it dubbed the strike–was over, a majority of the sailors are apparently ready to continue the strike. It was learned that the fate of the entire tie-up will rest upon the decision of the crews of the vessels Tel Aviv and Rimon, which are expected to dock here this week-end. If these two crews decide to strike, the tie-up will continue, but if they decide to throw in with the present minority they will be able to end the strike.
