Secretary of Interior Harold L. Ickes said at his press conference yesterday he was considering the possibility that Alaska might be opened to Jewish refugees. He made it clear that the idea had not yet reached the stage of being a plan — he had not even decided yet to recommend it to President Roosevelt — but declared further development of the Matanuska Valley might eventually open opportunities in industrial and professional fields now closed to the Jews in Germany.
