Michigan’s two Senators and five of its Representatives in Congress received awards today from the Detroit Jewish News and the American Judaic Heritage Society for their support to Israel. Temple medallions of silver depicting Solomon’s Temple were given to Sens. Robert P. Griffin, Republican, and Phillip A. Hart, Democrat, and Reps. Gerald Ford, Republican Leader in the House, William S. Broomfield, Republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and John Conyers, Charles C. Diggs and John D. Dingell, all Democrats.
Joseph Polakoff, chief of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s Washington Bureau, presented the legislators with the medallions on behalf of Philip Slomovitz, editor and publisher of the Detroit Jewish News and vice-president of the JTA, who was unable to come to Washington for the presentation. Robert Weber made the awards for the Society of which he is president. Arrangements for the presentations were made by Benjamin Levinson, president of the National Computer Services Company in Detroit, long an ardent worker on behalf of the State of Israel.
