Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the Zionist Executive, sailed today for London, following a short stay here on his return from a tour of South Africa.
When interviewed by the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Mr. Sokolow summarized his impressions of present-day conditions in the country. Notwithstanding the prevailing economic crisis, Palestine has progressed since last year, Mr. Sokolow stated. Lord Plumer, the High Commissioner, is earnestly trying to carry on the Jewish National Home policy, taking into consideration the existing circumstances. Concerning the land question, it is evident that the British Colonial Office has now adopted a more liberal attitude.
It is possible for the Zionists to start work in Transjordania. Mr. Sokolow added, because the Transjordanian government hopes to develop the country through Jewish capital and initiative. Mr. Sokolow also declared that the Zionist Executive has not given up the question of the participation of Jews in the Palestine – Transjordania frontier force. Negotiations on this matter are still pending.
