The Spanish government has refused entry visas to the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra which was due to give a concert in Madrid next week, A spokesman for the French Weizmann Institute, under whose auspices the Philharmonic is giving a concert in Paris today, said the Spanish Consulate refused to grant the visas claiming “security problems,”
The spokesman added that the Consulate also refused to grant “a license to perform” which is mandatory for all public shows and concerts in Spain. The orchestra consisting of some 120 performers and technicians, has cancelled the trip and is considering giving a concert elsewhere in France next week.
