The Association of East German Writers has told members of its Israeli counterpart that East Germany will stand by its refusal to pay reparations to Jewish victims of the Holocaust. But the East German association does not recognize Israel as a state which gave refuge to victims of Nazi persecution. The unusual meeting between members of the two organizations took place last month in East Berlin.
