Ambassador Adlai E. Stevenson, head of the United States delegation to the United Nations, tonight criticized the Soviet Union for the discriminations practiced there against Jews. “The battle for justice, “he said, “has not been won–not for the Jews in the Soviet Union and not for the Negroes in the United States.”
He spoke at a dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel at which he accepted the Stephen S. Wise Award of the American Jewish Congress–an engraved medallion–for “advancing human freedom.” Awards for “strengthening Jewish life” were presented at the dinner to Joseph, Michael and Samuel Daroff of Philadelphia, prominent Jewish philanthropists. The presentations were made by Dr. Joachim Prinz, Congress president.
