The Minister of Education, M. Keninsh, has completed a bill, the Yiddish press here reports, which will have the effect of closing down all secondary schools of the minorities, including the Jews, which are maintained partly by contributions from the municipal administrations and partly by school fees. According to present arrangements, the Parliamentary Budget Commission allocates subsidies to the secondary schools in proportion to the population of the particular minority.
“We learn now from a reliable source,” says the ‘Frimorgen’, “that the Minister of Education has drafted a bill which cancels all these subsidies, which means that all the minority secondary schools, including the Jewish, which number 15, would have to close down for lack of funds.”
