Jewish organizations have joined other agencies in caring for the victims of all nationalities from the flood overwhelming this area. Synagogues have been thrown open to the Red Cross as depots for collection of clothing, food, cash and medical supplies.
The gymnasium of the Hebrew Union College is being used by the Red Cross while students of the college go out in crews of fifteen at a time as Red Cross volunteers, manning boats, moving supplies, doing clerical work, distributing clothing and performing other tasks involved in the gigantic job of flood relief.
Every Jewish agency and hundreds of volunteers have been active in caring for flood refugees. All Hebrew schools and Jewish organizational activity have been suspended in the fight against the greatest disaster in Cincinnati’s history. The residential areas where Jews are concentrated are beyond the reach of flood waters, but Jewish business men are sharing the tremendous damage to property near the waterfront.
