Rallying to the support of Rabbi Morris Sklar, accused of slaughtering poultry without a permit, members of Congregation Anshae Sfard will gather in a mass meeting Wednesday night at the synagogue to protest “persecution” of the rabbi.
When arraigned in police court Friday he pleaded not guilty. He was released on bail for trial next week.
Operators of other abbatoirs are at the bottom of his difficulties, according to Rabbi Sklar.
“My competitors are behind this thing,” he said. “I kill chickens for poor people. I do a lot of my work without charge, which makes the others angry. Then they complain I am operating without a license.”
