This city today celebrated the first anniversary of its harbor, born of the 1936 Arab disorders which made the neighboring port of Jaffa inaccessible to Jewish merchants.

Thousands of Tel Aviveans thronged a jubilee meeting addressed by Palestine notables who hailed the new port as a success and expressed the hope that a Jewish steamship line would soon be established to ply between Trieste and Tel Aviv. The speakers appealed to world Jewry to support the Hebrew Sea League, which aims to promote development of sea industries in Palestine.

Speakers included Moshe Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine; Siegfried Hoofien, director of the Anglo-Palestine Bank; Rabbi Eliahu Berligne, member of the Jewish National Council; David Remez, labor leader and Dr. M. Soloweitchik, Consul General for Lithuania.
