Telephoned Hate Messages Against Jews, Blacks, Spewed by Neo-nazi Group

A strident, hysterical voice oozes messages of hate against Jews and blacks 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The voice, identified as belonging to one Charles Voros, is transmitted on public telephones by a special recorded announcement from the “National Socialist Bookstore” in this city’s West Side. The messages, changed weekly, deal with the drug scene, housing problems and social ills which are attributed to Jews and blacks. The disembodied recording tells the listener to “compare our conditions to National Socialist Germany” to learn the answer to the ills plaguing American society. “The differences are eye-opening,” the message recites in a monotone “There were no dissenting, dissatisfied kids, no long-haired grown men, no drugs, no blatant sexual rampaging, no decadence. And no wonder; National Socialist Germany was free of the corruption of Marxist Jews.” To shore up this contention, the message hits home with this venom: “Adolph Hitler put it another way. He said, “Cut deeply into an abscess in our society, and crouching at the bottom you’ll find a little Jew boy often blinded by the sudden light.”

Dealing with public housing, the recording offered comments about “the kind of people who will be coming to take over our stable white neighborhoods.” Referring to a rock festival in the area that had been cancelled but to which young people came despite the cancellation and allegedly took drugs and smoked marijuana, another recording offered an explanation of what happened there. “You will want to know how these things happen and who organizes them. You don’t have to look far. It is almost a sure bet that in a day or two there will be another article about some Jew who lost a bundle when the festival was cancelled.” The daily tape recordings, which have been spewing its venom for months and also provides the latest “line” according to the “National Socialist White Peoples Party.” Discussions have been conducted with Ohio Bell Telephone officials about the legality of using telephone lines for hate propaganda. Officials have said they felt they could not take legal steps to halt the telephone service. It is estimated that hundreds of local residents dial the number daily – for various reasons including curiosity – and receive a full does of ugly, semi-obscene poisonous comments.
