Joseph Schuster, No. 1 Nazi from across the East River, is variously reported as being a professional dancer and singing waiter.

By virtue of his training, he gives a very graceful speech. One could not help but remark his stance during his eloquent appeal to 20,000 kindred souls at the Garden the other night, when the Bund Leiter stood with his right hand on hip, in the approved Hitlerite manner, and brought the house to cheers (for Adolf) and jeers (for two gentlemen affectionately referred to by Nazis as “Sammy”).

This department removes its hat with a sweeping gesture to the New York Post desk man who authored the caption appearing above the panorama scene at the Garden. It read: “Heiling Hitler With a Hey Nazi-Nazi and a Hot Ja Ja.”

Speaking of funny headlines (and every paper has its share of them-no dispensation to our own) one of the tabs came out recently with a rib-tickler. It appeared over a Vatican City yarn and went like this:

POPE PROMOTES 15 CLERGYMEN IN NEWARK DIVORCE

The substance of the story indicated that it should have read: “Pope Promotes 15 Clergymen in Newark Diocese.”

Some day some enterprising fellow will commercialize the mistakes of weary headline writers by compiling a volume or two of the rare ones. Many of them, intentionally or otherwise odoriferous, will have to be rinsed in a strong solution of lye before they again appear in public.

For that matter, we recommend for diversion a careful scrutiny of the unbleached sheets of the city as a study in innuendo. Behind the clear and terse statement of fact one will frequently find in headlines an amusing subtlety.

The Nazis have frequently spent great efforts to prove the American press generally a tool in the hands of that big, bad scheming International Jewry. Their comments along these lines usually are directed at the finest sheets of the country and the most renowned journalists.

The effort they put into this work of ridicule is without end After having spent a full night trying to find something nasty to say about the press, one Nazi some months ago coined an expression, which today leads the wit of the brownshirts. He asks all comers to read the word Times as though it were Hebrew (from right to left), and goes of tittering.
