The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies in Montreal opened its annual campaign for funds at a large rally dinner at the Mount Royal Hotel Sunday evening, with Dr. Solomon Lowenstein, of New York City, as the guest speaker. Allan Bronfman, as chairman of the campaign executive, explained that the objective this year was $260,000.
The reason for increasing the annual budget objective by $10,000 was due to the recent opening by the Federation of the Old People’s and Sheltering Home, which would require between $15,000 to $20,000 maintenance a year. Some additional twenty-five families have also been taken over by the Family Welfare Department, the largest spending department in the Federation.
The Montreal Federation looks after fourteen constitutent societies. Michael Hirsch introduced Doctor Lowenstein. The control chairmen of the campaign are: Leon H. Fischel, J. P. Levee, Clarence Michaels, Michael Morris and Harry Rother.
