The first $1,000,000 of the $2,500,000, the goal of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities, has been raised.
The announcement was made at a dinner of the officers held at the Unity Club. Major H. B. Namm, head of one of the five committees that have pledged themselves to raise $500,000 each, presided, and Supreme Court Justices Harry E. Lewis and Edward Lazansky were among the speakers. In the past two weeks the five committees have raised more than $500,000.
The committee headed by Ralph Jonas raised $50,000, the report showed. In addition to this sum, the principal contributors were Rubel Brothers, $30,000; James H. Post, $9,000; Louis Roseman, $9,000; Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Jaffee, $8,500; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Nelson, $7,500, and Nathan Straus, $5,000.
